The building was built in the 1930s. Rationalism influenced its architecture, one we would like to imagine free of any other influence from the 1920s.

Our love for the mountains is genuine and we try to strike the necessary balance between nature and tourism. It is not easy. There are numerous contradictions, all pretty clear, yet we are convinced there is a path we can tread on to find the right balance. Maybe we can find it together?

The Dolomites are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, yet the ‘site’ only starts from 2,000 m altitude. We are located below the Dolomites, opposite the Sassolungo, just above 1,000 m attitude. Therefore, down here, everyone does what they want. We try to do the best we can.

We pamper the area and our home with loving words. We have renovated our old home by preserving what has always been there: doors, windows, floors and much more. Whatever is new stands out visually as well as materially from what already existed. We have created a fracture which, at the end of the day, unites different elements. Past and present amalgamate into the future. We are aesthetes and want people who visit us to feel good. The renovation is based on three principles: slowness, calmness, serenity.
Our ambition is to make you feel good when you discover how the building’s exterior plaster was created using sandstone from Val Gardena, creating a spectrum of colours ranging from brown and white to red. We want to make you feel at home by making you the light of the home, embracing you in its warmth. We want to capture your attention when explaining that we used crude steel, larch wood, natural stone, clay, felt, and gravel to give this building of ours a new life, deciding not to exaggerate with the colours. We believe the materials themselves are the colours.

We have twelve en suite rooms across two floors. Some are small, and none of them have a TV. We prepare a hearty breakfast without speaking of or promising beautiful views. We are from Ortisei, we are Ladin, and we are citizens of the world. We know the paths, the roads, even the uncharted territories. We love cycling, walking, skiing, and respecting nature. We have a passion for good drinks and food. We speak five, no, six languages. We are rooted here but, just like roots, stretch out, looking for outsiders to come and keep us company. Does it not sound marvellous – why not visit us? We cannot wait to welcome you with open arms and say hello to you!

There are always two sides to a story. Passion is what drives me. I travelled the world for 20 years, filling my suitcase with experiences, from France to New Zealand, enriching my knowledge of food and wine. I was the maître and Head of Food and Beverages for many years at one of the most renowned hotels in the Dolomites. I love telemark, off-piste, cycling and gathering mushrooms.
But, more than anything else, I love the place I come from, even if it is not the sweetest and most gentle of lands at times. I experienced this myself when I decided to open the doors of this home, where I was born, before turning it into what it is today, to welcome refugees who braved the oceans.
I love music, wine and some say I have a heart of gold. Who knows if it is true? I like laughing, puns, being happy and making people burst into laughter. Yes, yes, I hear you: I am distracted, I can be a slacker sometimes, and a dreamer. But I am also fussy, precise and severe. I have two sides, if you will. But that is what makes life so interesting, would you not agree?

Upon learning of the possibility of living and working here, I packed my bags in a flash. After so many years here, I now feel like a true insider. I know the mountain paths like the back of my hand, I worked as a guide, concierge, innkeeper, receptionist, Management assistant and I like giving advice to whoever asks me for some. Well, yes, I can be distracted and a bit of a dreamer, and sometimes I feel a bit cack-handed. It is true: some people have even had the audacity to say I must be a relative of Miss Rottenmeier! Me! Just because I have a hybrid accent, a mixture of the rolling hills of Lombardy, South Tyrol and Slovakia, which makes me sound like the austere toll of the Ortisei chapel bell tower? Get out of here! I am kidding, of course: jokes are always welcome. I may look reserved as I hide behind my walls, but I love to laugh, play, love, give and share. I am always on my feet. Anyone want to follow me as I move about? Let us go and have fun on the Dolomite paths, accompanied by a big smile and joie de vivre. Allez.
